The Lover you long for

Why does singleness appear to be more of a burden than a blessing in the body of Christ?

People are itching, dare I say, idolizing – including myself at times – the idea of finding ‘the one.’

A sweet friend who I haven't spoken to in months called me. They had expressed their struggles in trusting God with their love life. They went on dates, but nothing ever worked out, leaving them frustrated with God.

But then one day this person started prioritizing spiritual disciplines, submerging themselves in the Word, meditating on God’s goodness and what would you know – their desires changed.

They had a new perspective on singleness, but more importantly, a deeper depth of understanding in God's love for them.

This person expressed how they could never understand how I was so content with being single with God until the day it clicked:

The more time you spend with God, He will start to shift your desires to align with His.

My friend’s story resonated with me deeply because at times I, too, still struggle as any human does, surrendering my desires to God.

I have learned through this challenge that the moment I shift my eyes to focus on what I want above who I already have, I am in deep trouble, and you are too.

It distorts my perspective of God and hinders my peace completely – missing out on the freedom He offers me and whoever He is preparing me for in this single season.

Imagine that.

Dear friend, if no one has already told you today, let me hold your hand while I tell you how deeply loved you are. You don't have to chase this love, work for it, or search for it. All you have to do is accept it.

That person you want to come home to and tell them about your day, Jesus is omnipresent and is desperate for your attention.

“O Lord, you have examined my heart and know everything about me. You know when I sit down or stand up. You know my thoughts even when I'm far away. You see me when I travel and when I rest at home. You know everything I do.” (Psalm 139; 1-3)

That one thing you want someone to notice about you, Jesus already sees.

“How precious are your thoughts about me, O God. They cannot be numbered! I can't even count them; they outnumber the grains of sand! And when I wake up, you are still with me!” (Psalm 139; 17-18)

His love is passionate, faithful, and wildly extravagant for you.

If you're not fully satisfied with the love of God, you will never be in that relationship you are praying for.

The Lover you long for is already yours and is pursuing you right now.

It's time to rest in that truth.
