Christians aren't the standard, Jesus is

Something I was thinking about recently is how some people had bad church experiences and it is either through these or something else that makes them have misconceptions about the Christian faith.

I believe that when we provide a loving community to the nonbelievers full of likeminded people, they can be drawn to this and see that we truly love Jesus and each other, and we have a reason for the joy we have: Jesus giving His life for us because He loved us first.

Sometimes, nonbelievers are drawn to a community of believers because of this very reason, and they don’t even know why. The sheer joy and love that lights up a room when you enter it, and feel welcomed and smiled at.

I am sorry if you are someone who has been hurt by the Church, but keep in mind that people will let us down sometimes, but Jesus NEVER will. When you have ever been let down, it was never Jesus. He loves you more than any human could ever imagine loving you. And the love of Jesus is unconditional. There is nothing you can do to make Him love you more, and there is nothing you can do to cause Him to love you any less.

I am sorry if Christians you have come into contact with in the past have seemed judgy or upheld a “holier than thou” attitude or acted like a goody two shoes around you, making you feel insecure and unworthy. I am sorry if you have come into contact with hypocritical Christians who embraced a double standard, telling you you can’t do things but then turning around and doing the exact thing they are forbidding.

Christians are not perfect people. Non-Christians are not perfect people. Christians and Non-Christians are human beings, and human beings are imperfect people. Imperfect people in need of saving. In need of saving by Someone who is perfect.

Jesus is perfect, and He already saved us. Now accept Him, acknowledging your imperfection and the imperfection of everyone who has hurt you, and acknowledge His perfection and love that He will freely give to you.

People will let you down, Christian or not.

Don’t look to Christians - who are just as imperfect as you - as the standard.

Look to Jesus.
