A Light in the Darkness

Oh how the world is a vile breeding ground for sin. It is a direct misrepresentation of God and anything holy. Sadly, a common pattern that has been observed through all the generations is that so many people turn to the world and the wicked people within it for guidance. What may sound like effective advice and pleasing satisfaction is actually leading everyone astray from the truth.

I could cry for the multitudes of people who are misguided and lied to by false and invalid sources. It is so easy to get ensnared in the trap of the world and fall prey to its tempting calls. The world is not a nice place, contrary to what it may seem. It changes us. It hardens our hearts. It leaves us feeling empty, broken, and alone.

Even more devastating is false prophets and unfit religious teachers, who get swallowed up and enveloped by pride and self-conceitedness, yearning to receive something in return, that of which to build themselves up rather than leading people to the real source of truth: God. Then the people getting fed false information and perverted truth are accepting the lies, unbeknownst to them, cultivating it into their entire belief system and very reason for existing.

Whether we are aware of it or not, we are a God-avoiding, God-denying, God-blaming generation. We are lovers of self – which makes absolutely no sense when you think about it because why would imperfect beings such as ourselves be so engrossed in and focused on the imperfect flesh rather than a perfect God full of love and grace and truth? We lack all of that! What is so attractive and alluring about ourselves? Nothing!

We can have an earthly opinion and say that our limited glitz and glamor is aesthetically pleasing and draws us in, but that is just our outside skin that will eventually fade away. The only good things about us that we acknowledge are really just a reflection of God's good work in us. We have no grounds on which to boast. We have nothing.

We can't even give God glory because we do not possess glory. It is not something that we can invent or generate. We cannot create something from nothing. The best we can do is reflect God's glory back onto Himself and try to model Him and His precious example to the world.

God's light can shine brightest when there is darkness, so I encourage all of us to be a light for Him and show Him to the poor, lost souls of the world. The world is broken and divided, which is a perfect recipe for God to intervene: His light can shine through the cracks of brokenness and division. How could God's light shine if there wasn't any darkness to contrast it?

Christians are just mere flashlights to the world, portable vessels that run out of battery - but praise Jesus because He charges us! He fills us with His light. He is the ultimate light and cannot be turned off.
